TEMPO.CO, Kupang - State-owned seaport operator ASDP Ferry of Kupang Office has temporarily ceased all crossing routes in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province following bad weather conditions in the waters over the past few days.

“For the sake of safety, all shipping in NTT is temporarily closed, except the Kupang-Hansisi and Hansisi-Kupang routes,” General Manager of PT ASDP Ferry of Kupang Office, Sugeng Purwono, said in Kupang as quoted from Antara on Wednesday, March 13.

NTT has been severely hit by extreme weather conditions such as strong winds accompanied by high waves of up to 4 meters in several sea areas in the island-based province.

Sugeng explained that in order to ensure the safety of the public, the closure of all shipping routes has been in effect starting from Monday to Wednesday, in line with the warnings issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and an announcement from the Port Authority (KSOP) Kupang.

He also said that it is not certain how long the temporary closure of shipping routes will last. The authorities will reopen the routes only when the weather conditions improve.
