TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Parikudus boat carrying 35 people, including three crew members, capsized in the waters of Rambut Island, Untung Jawa Island District, Thousand Islands, Jakarta, on Monday at 3:30 pm after encountering high waves.

Thousand Islands Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Jarot said the vessel, which was sailing to Mutiara Beach, North Jakarta, belonged to Asha Resort Pulau Payung, South Thousand Islands.

“Bad weather and high sea waves hit Parikudus boat, causing it to capsize,” Jarot said.

He explained that ten foreign nationals were aboard the motorboat, consisting of five Chinese nationals, four Taiwanese nationals, and one Korean national. “One victim who is still missing is a citizen of Taiwan,” he added.

All the victims were evacuated by officers from the South Thousand Islands Police, with the help of the Marina Express ship, which happened to be passing near the scene of the incident. “[The capsized boat] was towed to Untung Jawa Island,” Jarot said.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta SAR Agency’s (Basarnas) operations chief, Agung Priambodo, said that the missing Taiwanese citizen is identified as Shi Yi. “A joint team is still looking for him,” he said in Jakarta on Monday, March 11.

He explained that the missing victim donned a gray t-shirt, black pants, and a black hat. “He is about 40-45 years old and is still missing," he said.

Agung also said that there was a passenger who was not on the passenger manifest who fortunately survived.
