TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Landslides caused by heavy rains in Pemalang Regency, Central Java on Sunday caused massive damages to three residential areas in Watukumpul District. As of 23:13 on March 3, a total of 133 residents were forced to evacuate to the Tundagan Village Hall Command Post.

The landslides caused heavy damages in Tundagan Village, Tlagasana Village and Tambi Village. Residents of Mendelam village in Belik district and Plakaran village in Moga district were also affected.

According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency's (BNPB) Operations Control Center, the landslide occurred after a heavy and continuous downpour from noon to evening on Sunday.

The disaster caused damage to a number of properties and civil infrastructure. At least five houses were severely damaged, while three suffered moderate damage. The landslide also caused two roads in Tambi village and Munggang hamlet, Mendelem village to be cut off by piles of debris.

At the time of this report, the BNPB was monitoring 17 residential units and three public facilities that were at risk of further landslides as rainfall was still frequent.

In a written statement on Monday, March 4, Abdul Muhari, head of the BNPB's Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, said that a team from the BPBD Pemalang Regency had arrived at the site to conduct data collection and evacuation, as well as to provide food aid, blankets, clothing kits and mattresses.
