TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - British Minister of State for Indo-Pacific Anne-Marie Trevelyan is scheduled to meet with Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Coordinating Minister for the Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, and Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatics Nezar Patria in Jakarta on Thursday, February 29, 2024. She arrived in Indonesia on Wednesday evening, based on information from the British Embassy in Jakarta.

Trevelyan's visit to the country also marks the celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and Indonesia this year. Trevelyan will discuss several issues with these high-ranking officials, ranging from Indonesia's membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to the Nusantara Capital City (IKN).

Trevelyan will discuss economic issues with Coordinating Minister Airlangga, including Britain's support for Indonesia's application as an OECD member. Indonesia became the first Southeast Asian country to apply for OECD membership.

With Nezar Patria, the British minister will discuss further collaboration in digital transformation and countering disinformation. According to the schedule, she will also meet UN Women and the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation as partners in the UK's ASEAN program.

She is also slated to attend the Infrastructure Export UK (IE:UK) MoU signing with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) regarding sustainable infrastructure opportunities in IKN.

Trevelyan said the current visit to Jakarta to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the UK was a "great moment", adding that Indonesia was an important country for the UK.

"I am keen to explore ways to collaborate further and discuss plans on how the UK’s support can pave the way for Indonesia to reach its ambitious goals on economic development, digital transformation, regional stability, and for the New Capital of Nusantara (IKN)," she said.

The member of the British Conservative Party also congratulated Indonesia on its recent election. Earlier, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also congratulated presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, who led the race in the election, in a letter sent by British Ambassador Dominic Jermey on February 18.
