TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police Chief Ins. Gen. Karyoto imposed sanctions on ten personnel of Tanah Abang Police Sector following the escape of 16 inmates on early Monday, Feb. 19.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comsr. Susatyo Purnomo Condro said that Karyoto ordered the Professional and Security Division of Polda Metro Jaya and Central Jakarta Police Resort to perform an audit and examine ten personnel to investigate elements of error and negligence by officers.

“And he ordered to take firm disciplinary action," said Susatyo through a press conference at his office on Thursday, February 22.

In this case, two inmates were captured before they could escape.

The authorities managed to recapture eight escaped inmates. They also arrested Rizki Amelia, the wife of one of the prisoners named Muhammad Saripudin alias Komeng, for allegedly smuggling a chainsaw when visiting her husband. "The saw was used to cut the cell bars alternately," Susatyo explained.

Meanwhile, six inmates are listed as fugitives.

Susatyo calls on the public to contact nearby police stations or the Central Jakarta Police Crime Unit call center at 081280706629 if they have information on escaped prisoners. “To the families or relatives [of the inmates] who help the escape in any way will be sanctioned, like Rizki Amelia who helped the escape.”

The police charged Rizki Amelia with Article 223 in conjunction with Article 56 of the Criminal Code or Article 138 of Narcotics Law with 7 years imprisonment.
