TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali is set to introduce a new tourism levy on February 14, 2024. All foreign visitors to the island will be required to pay a US$10 levy or Rp150,000 per person. However, there are seven categories of foreigners who are eligible for exemptions from the tax.

As reported by Antara, these categories are as follows:

1. Holders of diplomatic and official visas,

2. Crew members on transportation vehicles,

3. Holders of temporary or permanent stay permit cards (KITAS and KITAP),

4. Holders of family unification visas,

5. Holders of student visas,

6. Holders of Golden Visas, and

7. Holders of business-specific visas.

How to get a tourism tax exemption

Ida Ayu Indah Yustikarini, the head of the Tourism Marketing Department at the Provincial Tourism Agency, said that foreign nationals who fall under the aforementioned category must submit an application for tax exemption via the Love Bali app.

According to Bali Governor Regulation No. 36 of 2023, the request must be submitted at least one month prior to the arrival date. The verification and decision-making process is expected to take a maximum of five working days, and the applicant will be notified of the approval or rejection of their request through the app.

Where to pay the tax

The payment of the tourism levy can be made via the app or directly upon arrival at the international arrival terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and Benoa Harbor in Denpasar, or through travel agencies, both online and conventional, hotels, and tourist attractions.

The tourism tax for foreign tourists in Bali is aimed at preserving the rich Balinese customs, traditions, arts and culture, and the local wisdom of the community. The funds generated from the levy will be utilized to cultivate and maintain the island's culture and natural environment, improve the quality of services, and organize tourism.
