TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A woman died due to a landslide in the Cipondok spring area at Pasanggrahan Village, Subang Regency Sunday afternoon, January 7, forcing 140 residents to evacuate. The affected area is on a hillside with rice fields underneath.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Subang Regency reported that a landslide occurred Sunday afternoon at 17:30 after heavy rain. The disaster killed Oom, a 50 year old woman. Two other people were injured and are currently being treated at the Kasomalang health center (Puskesmas).

The landslide hit a coffee shop, burying it under rubbles. It also buried a fish pond and 1 hectare of rice fields. Right now, 140 other residents are taking shelter at the hall of the Bantar Panjang majelis taklim (Quran study group).

Head of the Subang BPBD, Udin Jazudin, said that disaster management officers were still carrying out work at the location, where the landslide material in the form of mud looked massive and had buried several buildings.

According to the BNPB's head of disaster data, information and communication center Abdul Muhari, the landslide occurred after high-intensity rain for a long period of time flushed most of Subang Regency.

He said that the Meteorology, Climalogy and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that medium to heavy downpours will still hit Subang Regency and its surroundings over the next two days. The BNPB urges the public to remain aware and vigilant over potential risks from disasters.
