TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry's spokesperson Adita Irawati expressed her concern and condolences regarding the train collision in Bandung Regency on the Cicalengka-Haurpugur route at 06:03 this morning. The train collision involved the Turangga (Bandung-Surabaya executive train) and the Bandung Metro Local Train.

"We also apologize for this incident and the disrupted railway services, especially in West Java," Adita said in a video press statement, on January 5.

The ministry's Directorate General of Railways has deployed a team to evacuate victims as well as remove the damaged train carriages and is working to restore service to normal.

"Further information regarding this incident will be provided again soon," railway director general Risal Wasal said in a written statement, Friday.

Meanwhile, PT KAI and the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. KAI executive vice president corporate secretary Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji said the rail line between Haurpugur-Cicalengka is suspended for now.

"KAI is currently trying to evacuate passengers on the two trains that collided," he said.
