"The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and the Indonesian Consulate in Osaka keep coordinating with local authorities and Indonesian diaspora in Japan," the Directorate for the Protection of Citizens and Legal Entities announced.

In the ministry report, it was written that until Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at 05:40 p.m. local time, nine Indonesian nationals, the majority are college students, have been staying at a shelter prepared by local authorities.

Local authorities have called off the tsunami warning but warned of possible aftershocks for the upcoming week. The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and the Indonesian Consulate in Osaka urged diasporas in Japan to remain vigilant.
