TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, or BMKG, predicted that rain to shower mostly on big cities in central and eastern Indonesia starting from Kalimantan, Maluku, to Papua.

BMKG forecaster Yuni Maharani said that tropical cyclone seed 18W was visible in the South China Sea with a wind velocity of around 20 knots and pressure at the center of 1,003 hectopascals.

"The condition may increase rain potential around the tropical cyclone seed and can increase the height of the waves around the area," she said in a statement quoted on Saturday, December 23, in Jakarta.

The meteorology agency forecasted light-intensity rain to shower all the cities in Maluku and Papua, namely in Ternate, Manokwari, Ambon, and Jayapura.

In Sulawesi, light-intensity rain will fall on Gorontalo, Palu, Makassar, and Mamuju. Meanwhile, medium-intensity rain to pour over Kendari, and be aware of rain with lightning and thunder in Manado.

Rain is also expected to pour over big cities in Kalimantan today. Light intensity-rain to fall on Palangka Raya and Samarinda, while medium intensity-rain to shower Pontianak, and rain with lightning will be in Banjarmasin and Tanjung Selor.

In the Lesser Sunda Islands, BMKG forecasted clouds to cover Denpasar, while light-intensity rain to shower Mataram and Kupang.

In Java Island, rain is predicted to pour over Jakarta and Bandung with light intensity. Meanwhile, sunny and cloudy weather will cover the skies in Serang, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya.

In Sumatra, BMKG predicted light-intensity rain to shower Banda Aceh, Pangkal Pinang, and Bengkulu. Medium-intensity rain to fall on Medan and heavy rain to wet Bandar Lampung.

BMKG reminded the public to be aware of rain with lightning that may fall on Padang, Pekanbaru, Tanjungpinang, Palembang, and Jambi.
