TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - No chance of rain again in Jakarta today, Dec. 19. It has been a week without rain amid the rainy season in the capital. A climatology researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Erma Yulihastin calls the current weather pattern a dry spell.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasted that the capital city will have partly cloudy weather in the morning and sunny weather in the afternoon, except West Jakarta where it will be overcast.

In the evening, there will be a few clouds in South Jakarta and East Jakarta, while other city regions will remain sunny until the early hours of Wednesday. The temperature was expected to range from 15 to 33 degrees Celcius.

Weather in Jakarta's neighbors

Around Jakarta, some regions will experience sunny weather without clouds since this morning, including Bogor City, Tangerang City, Tigaraksa (Tangerang Regency), and Serpong (South Tangerang City).

Other regions namely Bekasi, Cibinong (Bogor Regency), and Depok, will have partly cloudy skies throughout this morning.

In the afternoon, Bogor will see partly sunny skies, while Greater Tangerang remains sunny without clouds.

The maximum daily temperature is estimated to reach 36 degrees Celsius in Tangerang City, which is the highest in Greater Jakarta. Meanwhile, the air temperature in Tigaraksa and Serpong was predicted to be up to 35 degrees, and in Bekasi, Cibinong, and Depok up to 34 degrees Celsius.

Partly cloudy skies will cover Tangerang Raya in the evening. Bekasi, Cibinong, Depok, and Bogor City will also be cloudy tonight. BMKG also forecasted a chance of light rain in Bekasi.

Dry Spell

Erma Yulihastin assessed that dry spells or a series of dry days during the rainy season in December did not only occur in Greater Jakarta but also most parts of Java. On her social media account X (formerly Twitter), Erma attributed this to the peak of El Nino and the intrusion of dry air masses from the Indian Ocean south of Java and Australia during summer.
