TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno responded to the recent rising trend of COVID-19 cases in the country. He claimed that the situation was still under control.
“COVID-19 is increasing, but abroad, in Indonesia, the spread is still under control,” he told journalists after visiting a food bazaar at a shopping mall in Bekasi, on Sunday, Dec. 17.
He thus advised Indonesians to travel domestically only during the Christmas and New Year holidays and urged the public to remain vigilant due to the increase in coronavirus infections.
The former deputy governor of Jakarta called for the implementation of the health protocols, such as wearing masks and maintaining hygiene.
“Just travel in Indonesia with full caution. Wear a mask if you feel unwell or if someone next to you is unwell. Ensure hygiene, health, safety, and sustainability when traveling. Just travel in Indonesia,” Sandiaga Uno suggested.
On Sunday, Dec. 17, the Health Ministry recorded 216 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 128 recoveries, and one death case. As of Sunday, there were 2,070 active cases, an increase from the last week.
Indonesia and many countries around the world have recently seen a spike in COVID-19 cases, mainly due to the emergence of a new virus variant called JN.1.
