TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Jakarta Resort Police reported that around 400 people were sold fraudulent Coldplay tickets with a total loss of Rp1.3 billion.

Police are investigating hundreds of reports regarding the case and the perpetrator has been asked to refund the victims.

"[The police] asked for the perpetrator to refund the tickets," said the Resort Police Chief Susatyo Purnomo Condro as quoted by Antara on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

According to Susatyo, the perpetrator committed the crime by scamming people to reserve Coldplay tickets through them, but until the day of the concert, no tickets were actually given to the victims.

"Reported to the Central Jakarta resort police are 400 tickets with a total loss of Rp1.3 billion. We will definitely ask for statements and clarification from each victim," he explained.

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta resort police and Coldplay concert organizers prepared a post for fraudulent ticket reports or any other types of fraud regarding the concert tickets.

Police and concert organizers also stressed that their side would handle any fraudulent ticket cases or non-functioning barcode scans.

South Jakarta resort police also revealed a fraudulent Coldplay ticket case where the perpetrator copied the legitimate tickets that they bought. The perpetrator was apprehended at a house in Mampang Prapatan on Wednesday.

"The perpetrator directly sold these tickets to the victims," said Criminal Investigator Chief Police Grand Commissioner Adjutant Bintoro.

The perpetrator sold at least 24 fraudulent tickets for a total of Rp312 million. According to Bintoro, the perpetrator was self-employed and conducted their crimes by passing the information word-of-mouth.

In total, the loss from fraudulent Coldplay ticket cases in South Jakarta and Central Jakarta amounted to Rp1.6 billion.

Coldplay concert on Wednesday evening was packed with tens of thousands in audience. As part of its "Music of the Spheres Tour 2023", this was the first time the UK-based band performed in Indonesia.

The band that debuted in 1997 performed around 25 of its hit songs for more than two hours, including Adventure of a Lifetime, Paradise, The Scientist, Viva La Vida, A Sky Full of Stars, Fix You, and Yellow.
