TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo delivered a public lecture on the country's philosophy of Pancasila at Gaston Hall, Healy Building, Georgetown University, Washington DC, United States, on Monday, Nov. 13.

According to a press statement released by the Presidential Secretariat’s Bureau for Press, Media, and Information, nearly 500 people including academics and students attended the lecture.

“In managing its diversity, Indonesia has a guide, has an ideology, namely Pancasila, unity in diversity that inspires in every aspect of life including state life,” Jokowi said in his lecture.

He also highlighted that communication, space for dialogue, collaboration, and cooperation are the keys to achieving stability and peace both in the region and the world.

Jokowi is currently in the United States to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) Summit in San Francisco this week. He recently met with his US counterpart Joe Biden in the White House, where he urged the US to do more to stop Israeli atrocities in Gaza, Palestine.

In his general lecture, Jokowi stressed that Indonesia is open to cooperation with all countries and does not side with any power except for peace and humanity.

“This is the principle we brought to Indonesia's chairmanship of the G20 and ASEAN was conducted in a situation where the world is riven with sharp rivalries and heated geopolitics,” he added.

At present, he opined, the world is grappling with humanitarian issues with the ongoing war in Russia-Ukraine and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict area. He believed that global solidarity and leadership are crucial in resolving the prolonged humanitarian conflict around the world.

“We all have the responsibility to maintain peace and we must fulfill this responsibility now,” Jokowi said.
