Police Detain 895 Human Trafficking Suspects From June-August Period

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police of Indonesia revealed that its institution has carried out measures to mitigate human trafficking networks in Indonesia in response to the instruction from the National Police Chief General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Quoted from the release of the police's Public Information Agency yesterday, from June 5 to August 7 period, more than 750 police reports were received concerning human trafficking allegations.

Meanwhile, the police have successfully detained 895 suspects related to human trafficking operations. Additionally, the police focused their operation to save the victims trapped in the human trafficking networks. So far, 2,283 victims have been freed.

The police also reported the modus operandi of the human trafficking suspects. A chilling fact revealed that human traffickers use house assistants as a facade in 513 cases, vessel crew in 9 cases, sex workers in 218 cases, and child exploitation in 59 cases.

The operation's success to crack down on the human trafficking network could be attributed to the formulation of the Human Trafficking Task Force on June 5, 2023.
