TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo proceeds with his plan to meet with the President of PSSI Erick Thohir to discuss the preparation of the 2023 U-17 World Cup. The meeting will be held this weekend amidst Dito's suspected involvement in the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) 4G BAKTI Kominfo corruption case.
Previously, one of the suspects in the BTS 4G Bakti Kominfo case, Irwan Hermawan, revealed to the investigators that he transferred Rp27 billion toward Dito on November through December 2022. The hush money was given while Dito was still serving as a staff at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy.
Dito, who is also a part of the Golkar Party, has shown up at the Attorney General's Office to be questioned as a witness about the flow of the funds. He arrived at the office on Monday, July 3, 2023, at 13.00 pm to clarify the investigator's findings.
The meeting between Dito Ariotedjo and PSSI is scheduled for this week. The main agenda of this meeting will be the preparation for the 2023 U-17 World Cup which will be held in Indonesia this November. "Scheduled this week," said Dito when asked about the meeting with PSSI in the Kemenpora Office, Jakarta, Monday, July 3, 2023.
Previously, Dito stated that the meeting will be conducted at the Kemenpora Office. He also revealed, "Presently, PSSI is still ensuring with FIFA regarding the terms and conditions to host the World Cup. From there, we will determine the stadiums, the rundowns, etcetera".
The 32-year-old minister strives to make sure there will be no repeat of the previous U-20 World Cup. FIFA removed Indonesia as the host country following a massive rejection of the Israeli national team. Kemenpora will coordinate with all stakeholders to ensure the success of this biennial event.
The U-17 World Cup, says Dito, will be a great chance for the youth to develop their talents. He also hopes that the senior Indonesian national team will proceed to the World Cup next edition.
