TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo in an official statement on Tuesday announced the arrests and suspect naming of 457 people incriminated in human trafficking cases. These arrests were made in the span of merely two weeks.

“We surely hope the steps that we had taken will inspire people to work overseas through official legal channels,” said Sigit during the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) in Yogyakarta on June 20.

He called for fellow law enforcement officers to not hesitate in acting firmly against police members who are proven to be involved in the criminal act.

The widespread case of human trafficking was discussed in the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) Leaders as Indonesia is currently taking the chairmanship of the SOMTC. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has spoken to a number of country leaders to collectively prevent and eradicate human trafficking practices.
