TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) on Thursday revealed that it had discovered a multitude of transactions linked to human trafficking throughout 2023, reaching a staggering total of Rp442 billion. The National Police have been notified about this report.

“In 2023, the PPATK presented four analysis reports related to human trafficking with a transaction value of roughly Rp442 billion,” said PPATK head of public relations M Natsir Kongah in a text message to Tempo on June 8.

Natsir claimed the analysis has been followed up by the National Police and several people have been named suspects related to the crime. The institution is currently investigating the suspects linked to the Indonesian migrant workers who were trafficked to Cambodia.

Prior to this, the National Police had handled 500 human trafficking cases from 2020 to 2023 with more than 500 suspects named. "Bareskrim (Police Criminal Investigation Unit) and the police are processing the case," said the Police Head of the Public Information Bureau, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, yesterday.

Ramadhan said that the most frequent modus operandi was by luring migrant workers with high-salary jobs. He also said a special task force has been deployed to handle this issue.

"The task force will be under the auspices of Bareskrimi, each regional police chief will be led by the deputy regional police chief," he said.
