TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The Trade Ministry’s Director General of Domestic Trade Isy Karim in a written statement on Thursday said egg prices continue to show signs of increasing. It coincides with data from Statistics Indonesia's (BPS) forecast stating that May’s inflation could be sparked by rising prices of poultry products.
“Prices of eggs have continued to increase since Eid al-Fitr and have not shown signs of reducing,” Isy wrote in the statement on June 1.
The average national price of eggs as of May 31 amounts to Rp32,100/kilogram, which is a 6.64 percent increase compared to its prices in the previous month.
In responding to the Statistics Indonesia report, Isy assured the public that the government will not let the situation drag on and will take steps to prevent the commodity prices from escalating even higher. Initially, the government distributed subsidies and facilitated the distribution of corn as the main feed for poultry farms.
