TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia-China High-Speed Rail consortium KCIC (PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China has increased the train’s speed in its latest trial run from an average of 60 kilometers per hour speed up to 180 kilometers per hour.

The trial is done by the Jakarta-Bandung High-speed Rail (KCJB) testing and commissioning division. The test was carried out on a series of comprehensive inspection trains (CIT) with speeds increased gradually.

SOEs Deputy Minister Kartika Wirjoatmodjo claims the test went smoothly. "All systems are functioning properly, such as trains, rails, signaling, electricity, and others," he said in a written statement on Monday, May 22.

The test speed of the trains will gradually be increased until its intended peak speed of 385 kilometers per hour, which highlights the need to improve other aspects of the railway’s infrastructure such as safety fences and sound barriers to prevent the train’s noise from creating sound hindrances for local residents nearby the railway tracks.

Moreover, the deputy minister said the government hopes the high-speed rail will help improve the economy and open up new possibilities in the Jakarta - Bandung corridor. This new public transport will be fully integrated with other transportation devices such as the LRT in Greater Jakarta.
