TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD confirmed that the Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Ministry would continue to run the Bakti Base Transceiver Station (BTS) project athough Johnny G. Plate had been named a suspect in the project's alleged corruption case.

"We are still trying to resume it because it is a multi-year project, which has been going on for 14 years. If it is not resumed, it will be such a loss," Mahfud, who is now the Acting Kominfo Minister said in a press conference at the Kominfo HQ, Central Jakarta on Monday, May 22, 2023.

He emphasized that there must be a separation between the Bakti BTS project and the corruption case being investigated by the Attorney General's Office (AGO).

The project, he emphasized, would still be a part of the national policy strategy in the field of communication and information with sophisticated and up-to-date technology.

“The legal case will continue to be conducted by the Attorney General's Office,” the Coordinating Minister said.

Mahfud MD also claimed that he had communicated with the AGO and stated that he would be transparent during the investigation. The AGO, he added, was welcome to access any information in the Kominfo Ministry for the corruption case, including summoning any witnesses from the ministry.
