TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Denpasar Police, Police Chief Commissioner Yugo Pamungkas, named two Indian citizens residing in Bali, Gurmej Singh (21) and Ajaypal Singh (21), as suspects in a murder case. The two foreigners killed Jakarta resident Fitran Robby Firdaus (39) in Bali.

According to police investigators, the murder happened after the victim and suspects were involved in an argument as they were playing cards at the victim’s house. According to the Police, The argument was caused by a miscommunication.

“There were misunderstandings between the victim and suspect. Foul words and insults were traded in English between them,” said Bambang in a press conference held in Denpasar, Bali on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, as reported by state-news agency Antara.

According to Yugo, the two suspects not only killed Fitran but also physically attacked another Indian national in Rajesh Sheen (40), who was found sitting on the side of the road with his head tied with a bloody piece of cloth.

Both suspects, who arrived in Indonesia using a tourist visa, confessed to killing Fitran. However, investigators are still digging into other possible motives. One of the pieces of evidence used as a murder tool was the wooden handle of a hoe.

The victim and suspects initally met as the two Indian nationals first stepped foot at Indonesia on May 10. Fitran offered them his house as a place to stay in Bali. The suspects initially attempted to flee to India via Ngurah Rai International Airport but were arrested just 2.5 hours after the murder took place. The two suspects now face up to 15 years in prison for their crime.
