TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta-owned bus operator PT Transjakarta targeted a travel time of 35 minutes from a number of points in the city.

“We will try to break the 35-minute record [of bus travel time] from several points in Jakarta areas,” said the company’s operations and safety director Daud Joseph when met at the Jakarta City Hall, on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Daud explained that his side planned to create a program that will compare the time spent to a number of points in the capital by taking the Transjakarta bus and the non-Transjakarta bus.

According to him, the travel time of 35 minutes is a psychological number that has been in the minds of the people that they have to arrive at their workplace in no more than an hour.

“So [they need to spend] 25 minutes from home to the Transjakarta bus stop, then 35 minutes from the Transjakarta bus stop to the bus stop in the central city,” Daud explained.

In order to achieve this target, what needs to be achieved is how to protect bus corridors so that the buses can reach their destination points at optimal speeds.

Transjakarta management is determined to cooperate with the Transportation Agency and the police to carry out security measures, such as cleaning the busways from other vehicles.

“That's why each crossing point will later be guarded and monitored consistently, especially since the police re-impose ticketing as done previously (manual ticketing). This could be a good security measure,” Daud argued.
