TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said there is no discussion regarding the increase in fares of Transjakarta bus and minibus or angkot Mikrotrans to date. According to him, a study is necessary before deciding on a price hike in mass transportation.
“I don't know, there is no talk yet,” he said at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, April 3.
Previously, the Jakarta Transportation Agency was running a survey regarding the surge in Transjakarta bus and Mikrotrans fares after receiving input from the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ). The survey was held via its Instagram account @dishubdkijakarta.
Heru said that a preliminary study is vital for the benefit of the community. “Conduct a study first, and then we'll see. The point is for the public interest,” said the Head of the Presidential Secretariat.
Meanwhile, Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo conveyed that the survey on the increase in bus fares was aimed at reviewing people's reactions. “We just checked the waves and we hope this will be used as material for our evaluation,” he said when met at the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Building.
The basis for this survey was the result of DTKJ's proposal to increase Transjakarta bus fares, bearing in mind that there has been no change in ticket prices since 2007. In addition, other transportation modes, such as the KRL or Commuter Line, reportedly will raise the fare to Rp5,000.
“Of course, we have to check and recheck related to that and of course, there is an internal survey,” said Syafrin.
The Jakarta Transportation Agency presented two questions in its survey. The first question is whether or not the public wants Transjakarta bus fares to increase to Rp4,000 or Rp5,000 throughout the day; Rp4,000 at 05:00-19:00 WIB, and increase to Rp5,000 at 19.00-22.00 WIB. the second question is that people are asked to answer whether they agree if the Mikrotrans fare at 05.00-07.00 WIB is hiked to Rp1,000 or Rp2,000.
