TEMPO.CO, Depok - SN, a woman who fell victim to an online part-time job scam in Depok, revealed that she is not the only person who was lured to get money by performing online tasks, such as liking and subscribing to a YouTube channel. According to her, there are at least 205 victims as of Thursday, May 11, 2023.

SN said they agreed to make a collective report to the National Police because the total loss reached Rp12 billion.

“Alhamdulillah, more and more people have the courage to make a report, there are many DM [direct messages]. They remain silent judging themselves because they are afraid and embarrassed,” SN said in Depok, Friday, May 12, 2023.

Victims who have experienced similar fraud cases in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek) planned to meet on Sunday, May 14, 2023. “We are going to the National Police Headquarters to make a collective report, the losses are also large up to Rp12 billion. That's collected from those who dare [to reveal their losses],” she added.

SN elaborated that there is a victim who fell into the scam and lost Rp1.6 billion. There is also a victim from East Jakarta who is an online ojek driver and lost Rp300 million. “It’s informed that they used their parents' hajj savings, and are now in debt and have sold the motorbike,” SN said.

SN claimed she had let go of the lost money. However, the problem is that the perpetrators are still operating and luring more victims.

“There was even one person DMed me that he had read my thread in the morning, but in the afternoon he became a victim. [This shows] how smart the perpetrators are to manipulate the victims,” SN emphasized.

As previously reported, an officer from the Management of Public Infrastructure and Facilities (PPSU) of Menteng District, Adithya Oktavianto, reported the online job scam to Metro Jaya Police as a victim. As a result of the fraud, he lost Rp28 million.

In this job scam case, Adithya was directed to conduct trading after completing several online tasks, including following Instagram accounts and liking posts. He was instructed to make a deposit to get back more cash. To meet the deposit requirements, he spent his savings and was forced to take an online loan.
