TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 250-meter-high cliff of Mount Sanggabuana collapsed in Tanjungsari District, Bogor Regency of West Java on Monday, May 8, 2023. Tanjungsari Police evacuated as many as 50 families residing near the landslide area to a safer place to anticipate further disasters.

“The cause of the landslide is the soil movement on the cliffs of Mount Sanggabuana. There are no casualties or houses that were crushed, but for safety reasons, we evacuated residents close to the disaster site,” said Tanjungsari Police Chief First Inspector Rustami to Tempo on Monday, May 8, 2023.

Rustami explained that the landslide occurred this morning in Buana Jaya Village, Tanjungsari. After receiving the public report, he immediately instructed police officers to immediately inspect the location and launch security measures.

He also visited the location to conduct an assessment and directly lead the evacuation of residents. As of Monday afternoon, Tanjungsari Police personnel were still in the area to collect data on the affected residents.

“The location [of the landslide] is not far from residential areas. This morning after receiving the report, I immediately instructed members to carry out security measures. We evacuate residents to several places so as to anticipate more landslides,” Rustami said.
