TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of Operation and Safety of PT Transportasi Jakarta, or Transjakarta, Yoga Adiwinarto, said 22 new electric buses arrived in Jakarta. He added that the fleets will be operated this month.

"Possibly this month will start the operation, gradually," he said when met at Transjakarta’s GOR Sumantri bus stop, South Jakarta, Friday, March 24.

Yoga explained that these 22 units were part of the 100 electric buses procurement in the 2022 budget. He said that other electric buses will enter Jakarta gradually, as well as the operation.

"(The deadline for all of the electric buses to enter the city is) at the end of August (2023)," said the former director of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP).

Previously, former head division of Transjakarta Secretary Anang Rizkani Noor, claimed that 70 electric buses from China came late to Jakarta due to the Covid-19 lockdown imposed by the Chinese government.

"70 (buses) are halted to arrive to Indonesia as China is imposing lockdown," said Anang in Ancol, North Jakarta on January 13, 2023.

He said that Transjakarta electric bus delivery would take place in stages. He expected the new buses to arrive in Indonesia before March 2023. "The buses will arrive in Indonesia approximately in February or March."

Anang said the papers for the 100 electric buses procurement completed in 2022. Thirty Transjakarta electric buses were operated in the capital city last year.

Meanwhile, his office is still waiting for the arrival of 70 new electric buses. Now 22 electric buses have arrived, leaving 48 units.

PT Transjakarta targeted an additional 120 electric buses this year. "For 2023, there will be 120 more (electric buses)," said Anang.

The Jakarta Provincial Government initially targeted 100 Transjakarta electric buses to operate in the capital city by 2022. However, this target had not been achieved due to the limited time slot.
