TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Thursday announced a magnitude 5.5 tectonic earthquake had hit the Talaud Islands in North Sulawesi.
The quake’s epicenter was detected at the coordinates of 4.67° North latitude and 126.95° East longitude, roughly 14 kilometers southwest of Nanusa, Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, at a depth of 78 kilometers.
Based on the estimated shock map, this earthquake has an intensity scale of IV-V MMI, that is, vibrations are felt by almost all residents and many people wake up. There has been no report of damage caused by the earthquake while further observations found that it has no potential for a tsunami.
