TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Center For Research on Ethics Economy and Democracy (CREED) executive director Yoseph Billie Dosiwoda in a statement on Monday expressed support for the Finance Ministry’s attempt in cleaning up its internal shortcomings, especially following the discovery of an alleged suspicious transaction valued at a staggering Rp300 trillion.

Yoseph specifically called for the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to do a public expose on this possible graft scheme and show support for Finance Ministry Sri Mulyani’s strong intent to overhaul the ministry she leads.

“It’s now in the hands of the PPATK. Does such a transaction really exist? If so, PPATK should be more transparent. The public has the right to know,” said the CREED executive on March 13.

According to Yoseph, this exposed “phantom” transaction seems to be merely a polarizing issue as, since the first public disclosure by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolkam) Mahmud Md, there has yet to be actual “smoking gun” data.

Yoseph emphasized that Sri Mulyani's firmness in taking action against any of her guilty subordinates should not be doubted. Even though the alleged transaction of Rp 300 trillion was said to involve as many as 467 employees within the Ministry of Finance.

"Since 2007 until now in 2023. She has taken action against 964 of her employees in the form of disciplinary punishment. Some of them have even been delegated to law enforcement officials," said Yoseph.
