TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Street vendors are banned to open booths on the red zone along the Sudirman-Thamrin streets on the car-free day starting tomorrow, as stated by the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises or PPKUKM.
"Based on the weekly evaluation meeting on Car Free Day at Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, it (the ban) was set starting on Sunday, February 12, 2023," said the head of Jakarta PPKUKM department, Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, in a written statement on Friday, Feb. 10.
She stated that Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin would be totally set as a red zone during car-free days, with no more yellow zone. This is aimed at providing a comfortable area for people to do sports activities.
However, the street vendors are allowed to open their booths in the green zone in Sudirman-Thamrin areas, which are:
- Jl. Sunda;
- Jl. Kebon Kacang;
- Jl. Sumenep;
- Jl. Pamekasan;
- Jl. Purworejo,
- Jl. Blora;
- Jl. Teluk Betung;
- Jl. Galunggung;
- Jl. Karet Pasar Baru 3;
- Jl. Kebon Sirih.
Other connecting roads were also being readied to accommodate street traders, such as at Jalan Kebon Sirih and Jalan Karet Pasar Baru III/V.
Ratu called on the street vendors to stay in the green zone, maintain order and keep the environment clean.
