TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono decided to allocate a budget of Rp135 billion for the construction of river walls in four locations as one of the efforts to tackle flooding in the capital.

“We’re checking Pesanggrahan River. In 2023, we will be secure areas that are frequently flooded,” he said after monitoring the flow of the river in South Kedoya, West Jakarta, Thursday, January 19, 2023.

The four locations are Pesanggarah River, East Kalibaru (HEK), Sunter River (Pompa Pulomas outlet), and Krukut River in Kemang. The construction of the river wall was targeted to complete by the end of 2023.

Heru explained that it will be 1,400 meters long, with a 795-meter-long wall on the east side and a 605-meter-long wall on the west side.

“[The river walls] from here, from the toll road, until the red light there can reduce flooding and of course, traffic jams during critical situations related to flooding,” he added.

The Presidential Secretariat Head thus asked residents to understand and support this program considering buildings will surely be affected by the construction project.

The regional regulation draft (Raperda) regarding the 2023 Regional Budget (APBD) has been agreed at Rp83.78 trillion, increased by Rp1.2 trillion from the MoU on the budget policy and provisional budget ceiling priorities (KUA-PPAS) for 2023.

Head of the Jakarta Regional Financial Management Agency (BPKD) Michael Rolandi Cesnanta Brata on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, said the 2023 APBD draft is focused on three priority programs with an allocation of 41.27 percent. They are flood control, congestion mitigation, and anticipation of negative economic growth.
