TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali of Indonesia has yet to serve flights to and from China albeit it has allowed its citizens to travel abroad as of January 8, 2023.

“We can say that so far we have not served any flights from China,” said General Manager of state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura I for Ngurah Rai International Airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, in Badung Regency, on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

He said the airport management has not received a definite schedule regarding the submission of international flight slots for China routes to date.

For almost three years, China implemented a zero COVID-19 policy, which required international travelers to undergo centralized and monitored quarantine and prohibited citizens from traveling abroad except for very urgent purposes.

“We are still coordinating with the airline regarding the flight schedule,” Handy added.

Although a definite schedule is yet to be received, Handy claimed his side continued to coordinate with the Port Health Office (KKP) for the implementation of COVID-19 prevention checks at the airport.

“As a result of the latest coordination carried out with the Port Health Office, a number of procedures, such as checking body temperature, profiling passengers, and checking the COVID-19 vaccine certificate, are still being carried out at the airport for all arriving international passengers. We are doing this solely to prevent the entry of COVID-19 through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport,” Handy underlined.
