TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police stated that they are prepared to confront natural and non-natural disasters in 2023 through Operation Aman Nusa II.

The Assistant Operations (Asops) of the National Police, Inspector General Agung Setya Imam Effendy, said the operation was a contingency that would operate for one year.

"Operation Aman Nusa II has been prepared as a contingency or emergency operation that will operate for one year to deal with natural and non-natural disasters in 2023," Agung said in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

He explained that Operation Aman Nusa II tended to be a sudden contingency so that the National Police carried out the operation automatically when a disaster occurred. The scope of operations is divided into national scope, which is carried out by the National Police headquarters, and regional scope by regional police throughout Indonesia.

The former regional police chief of Riau added that the National Police need to be prepared for disasters as part of the regulatory pattern. "This preparedness must be immediately handled by existing units, be it the military (TNI), Police, government or other stakeholders; it can also involve the community," he said.

One of the readiness of the National Police in dealing with disasters is to alert personnel who are members of the Contingency Task Force. The task force is assigned with evacuating disaster victims, distributing aid, providing health services, and maintaining security during emergency response conditions.

In several areas that have experienced natural disasters, the National Police that operated in the areas affected by a disaster would automatically implement Operation Aman Nusa II.

Based on the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasures (BNPB) records, until Monday, January 9, 2023, 41 natural disasters had occurred consisting of floods and extreme weather in Central Java and South Sulawesi.
