TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Transportation Agency urged the public to remain wearing masks while riding public transportation. The notion is regulated in Circular Letter No. e-0002/SE/2023/SE/2022 concerning Obligation to Wear Mask in Public Transportation Facilities during Endemic Transition Period.

The Circular Letter is a follow-up to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's instruction on the revocation of the Public Activity Restriction Policy (PPKM) back in December 2022.

"As a follow up to the Republic of Indonesia President on Friday, December 30, 2022, to revoke the Public Activity Restriction Policy," the Circular Letter states as quoted by Tempo on Friday, January 6, 2023.

Through the Circular Letter, the Jakarta Transportation Agency mandates public transportation drivers, staff, and passengers to wear masks correctly while in public transportation vehicles and facilities.

Public transportation operators and Heads of Terminal Administrator Unit are also urged to prepare handwashing facilities or hand sanitizers within public transportation facilities.

The transportation agency also urged passengers to use the PeduliLindungi application when entering public transportation facilities.

"Urging passengers of public transportation to use the PeduliLindungi application when entering public transportation facilities and urged to take booster vaccine shots," the Circular Letter continues.

Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono also urged the public to remain wearing masks while riding public transportation.

"I urged, in accordance with the Minister of Health instructions, inside public transportation, in busses, in small rooms, to remain wearing masks," Heru said on Friday, January 6, 2023.

Meanwhile, in open spaces, Heru said that people are free to decide whether to wear masks or not.
