TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) officially operated the country’s first Panoramic Train, offering passengers beautiful rail routes. The train connects Gambir of Jakarta and Yogyakarta with ticket prices starting at Rp750,000.

“The Panoramic Train is a train with special specifications to enjoy panoramas. It’s the first in Indonesia,” said KAI Public Relations Manager for Yogyakarta Operations Area 6, Franoto Wibowo, on Sunday, December 25, 2022.

This KAI’s innovation has large windows on both sides and glass roofs that can be opened and closed automatically through which passengers can enjoy scenic views along the trip. The train also has rotatable seats, window blinds that can be controlled remotely, spacious toilets with automatic sensors, televisions on the end of the train, and special luggage racks at the end of the train.

“Passengers will also get special services in the form of free snacks, food, drinks, and blankets,” said Franoto.

KAI currently has two units of Panoramic Train carriages which are an innovation from Balai Yasa Surabaya Gubeng and planned to add more trains.

“The Panoramic Train is a form of innovation by KAI to improve services, especially during this Christmas and New Year holiday. The public has more choices of travel classes based on tariffs and services,” said Franoto.

The Panoramic train started operating on December 24, 2022, which is connected to the additional train Taksaka (Gambir - Yogyakarta). The service will be available until January 8, 2023. On each trip, the train carriage has a capacity of 46 seats.
