TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The earthquake in Cianjur, West Java caused damage to infrastructure and buildings in the area, including tourist attractions. The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry deployed a Tourism Crisis Management Team to the affected regions on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, to identify victims’ needs and provide assistance.

“We identify the essentials needed by the refugees, namely tents, tarpaulins, blankets, food and beverages, baby diapers, medicine, and vitamins,” said the Minister's Expert Staff for Crisis Management Fadjar Hutomo on Monday, November 28, 2022.

The earthquake that occurred on November 21 killed at least 320 people, injured 700 people, and sent 73,000 people to evacuation posts. The ministry also recorded 92 tourist destinations affected by the disaster, including a number of tourist villages.

Among those that experienced quite a severe impact was Sarongge tourist village. It was reported that 10 people in the area died and 736 others were injured. The tourist village was often favored by urban people for its natural view of mountains and villages where they can learn about agriculture, plantations, and animal husbandry.

Apart from Sarongge, the Gunung Padang and Sindangjaya tourist villages were also affected by the quake albeit with mild impacts.

The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry is collaborating with tourism actors to provide assistance to victims of the Cianjur earthquake. “Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), we get support from the tourism ecosystem and the creative economy players, including Eiger, Pondok Indah golf, RedDoorz, and tactical gear,” said Fadjar.
