TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PLN announced the agreement of four 210 megawatts (MW) solar power projects (PLTS) with Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). The deal is the first power off-take agreement with PLN to access additional utility-scale solar projects in Indonesia.

Based on the agreement, Amazon will buy electricity from 210 MW solar plants in Indonesia to power its local operations in the country.

The four solar projects are located in the islands of Bali and Java for the Java-Madura-Bali power grid. Amazon's commitment to be the off-taker is a key driver for these projects.

Meanwhile, for PLN, the deal that was signed—and the opportunity to expand it to include other companies—will bring it closer to its target of 23 percent renewable energy integration by 2025.

"The Indonesian government is committed to reducing greenhouse emissions to achieve the net zero target [carbon neutrality]," PLN CEO Darmawan Prasodjo said in a written statement, Monday, November 14.

With this agreement, PLN also states its support for Amazon, which is on a path to power 100 percent of its operations with renewables by 2025.

"We are pleased to announce our first renewable energy project in Indonesia in collaboration with PLN," said Carly Wishart, managing director at Data Center Planning & Delivery for Asia-Pacific, Japan & China, Amazon Web Services.
