TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director general of industrial relations and labor social security at the Manpower Ministry, Indah Anggoro Putri, informed that each governor will announce the 2023 provincial minimum wage this month.

"Governors will determine and announce the 2023 wage," Indah said in a virtual press conference on Monday, November 7, 2022.

Indah explained that each governor will make the announcement on November 21, 2022. The minimum salaries for regencies and cities, meanwhile, will be disclosed on November 30, 2022.

To prepare for the determination of the next year’s minimum salaries, Indah said the ministry had carried out a series of activities, such as dialogues.

Indah emphasized that the minimum wage is eligible for workers with a maximum working period of one year or 12 months. So, it cannot be applied to workers who have just entered the labor market.

The minimum pay rules are set based on the Job Creation Law and Government Regulation (PP) No. 36 of 2021 on wages. Its implementation, she added, must involve several main variables, viz. economic growth, inflation, and others.

Indah also claimed she had coordinated with ministries and agencies as well as had a dialogue with trade unions and labor unions together with the National Wage Council and national tripartite cooperation institutions.

"We have also requested data support from BPS [Statistics Indonesia] since last September," said Indah.

Today, November 7, 2022, the Manpower Ministry reportedly received 20 data related to the 2023 minimum wage. Indah thus estimated that the ministerial decree related to the matters will be soon issued and distributed to all governors for consideration.
