University Student Jumps to Death from 11th Floor in Yogyakarta

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - The Bulaksumur Police, Yogyakarta, confirmed that a Gadjah Mada University (UGM) student with the initials TSR (18) died after committing suicide by jumping from the 11th floor of a hotel. Bulaksumur Police Chief Commissioner Sumanto said that the conclusion was decided after examining a number of witnesses and gathering police findings at the crime scene.

"(It was) suicide, we found a medical document of psychological report of the victim," said Sumanto, Saturday, October 9, 2022.

Sumanto added that medical document, which was found inside the victim's bag, was issued by the JIH Sleman Hospital. "The medical document confirmed that the victim had psychological disorder."

The police did not find any other motive or involvement of other parties that triggered the victim to jump from the 11th floor.

After an examination was carried out at the Yogyakarta Regional Police's Bhayangkara Hospital on Saturday night, Sumanto said that the victim's body was handed over to the family to be brought back to Kendal, Central Java. "The mother's family has taken the body to Kendal, straight from the Bhayangkara Hospital," he said.

Police received reports that an UGM student fell from the 11th floor at one of the hotels in Sleman, Yogyakarta on Saturday, October 8 at around 15:30 WIB (Western Indonesia Time).

Meanwhile, Dina W. Kariodimedjo, UGM Head of Public Relations and Protocol, confirmed that TSR is one of the students at the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. "The UGM is deeply saddened by the death of one of our students," said Dina.
