Police Name Suspects in Kanjuruhan Deadly Football Stampede

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo on Thursday announced the first set of suspects deemed responsible for East Java’s Kanjuruhan Stadium mass stampede.

One of the suspects is the president director of the country’s football league committee PT LIB Akhmad Hadian Lukita.

“There are currently 6 suspects based on initial investigation and the pieces of evidence,” said the National Police Chief in the press conference at the Police Main Headquarters on October 6.

The other five suspects include the acting committee chief of the Arema FC game Abdul Haris, security officer Suko Sutrisno, East Java Police Brimob commander AKP Hasdarman, Malang Police officer Wahyu SS, and another Malang Police Officer with initials BSA.

The police chief said his institution had examined 48 witnesses comprising 26 police personnel and three event organizers, eight stewards, six witnesses at the location, and five victims.

The tragedy that claimed the lives of 131 people following a match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya ensued on Saturday, October 1.
