TEMPO.CO, Solo - Residents of the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) dormitory located in Sukoharjo, Central Java, were stunned by a loud bang caused by an explosion, which severely injured one police personnel. This incident took place on Sunday, September 26.

According to a statement from the Central Java Police Chief General Ahmad Luthfi, the explosion was not a terror attack aimed at a police compound but rather a possible mishandling of a delivery package of fireworks. Police have questioned seven witnesses so far linked to this incident.

Luthfi says that a company confirmed the delivery of the package which revealed that this was the second order to the recipient, identified as Pradipta (35) from the Solo Police Unit. The personnel was rushed to the hospital where doctors determined he had sustained 37 percent burn injury.

Based on a crime scene investigation, Ahmad Luthfi said investigators’ initial report found the package left after the explosion still contained one ounce of black powder, strongly believed to be a component for the fireworks.

He explained that what contains in the package is an item retrieved from a police raid regarding online fireworks sales.

“I can confirm that there were no elements of terror acts. It was simply the negligence of a police member that caused the explosion,” said the police chief.
