TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) on Monday called for regional governments to prepare for high-intensity rainfall throughout the week from September 11-17 as the weather condition will affect both heavily populated and deserted regions.

In Monday’s online disaster briefing, the BNPB head of disaster information and communication Abdul Muhari said regions that would likely be affected include the Northern region of West Papua, Sorong, and Manokwari.

Meanwhile, regions in West Java that the agency called for disaster prevention measures include Bogor Regency, Ciawi Regency, and the southern part of Sukabumi Regency. BNPB also mentioned the Northern area of Sumatra, the Eastern part of Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.

"These are the areas that we need to be aware of, the local government in this case needs to prepare anticipatory and mitigation measures," he said.

For the West Java region, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has previously confirmed the prediction for the start of the 2022/2023 rainy season in the region starting this month in September. The peak of the rainy season is predicted to occur from January to February 2023.
