TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta-owned bus operator company PT Transport Jakarta (Transjakarta) met with Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto on Friday, September 02, 2022.

Head of the Corporate Secretary of PT Transjakarta, Anang Rizkani Noor, said his side reported the electrification of buses and plans to turn 10,000 conventional fleets into electric-powered ones.

"To develop these [conventional buses] into 10,000 [electric buses], we surely need support from the central government," Anang said at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Central Jakarta on Friday, 2 September 2022.

Anang said his company needed support in terms of regulation from the Coordinating Ministry. However, he did not specify the regulations in question.

At present, PT Transjakarta's partner operator has provided 30 electric buses. The company planned to add 40 new electric buses this month.

The regional-owned enterprise targeted the procurement of 100 electric buses by the end of 2022. Meanwhile, all of the company's fleets are targeted to be electric-powered by 2030.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan previously stated that the operation of electric buses could solve two problems in the capital, namely air pollution, and traffic congestion.

The use of electric buses, he continued, is also in line with the 2022 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report that cities must accelerate the transition to net zero emissions.

The Jakarta government targeted to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030. In the same year, all buses in the capital are expected to turn into electric vehicles.
