TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Traffic Police Director Sr. Comr. Latif Usman said relevant parties have agreed to alter the office working hours as an effort to overcome congestion in the capital.

“We have held a meeting and come to an agreement. We will discuss it again when it will be implemented,” said Latif as quoted from Antara, Monday, August 22, 2022.

He explained that the meeting involved the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, the Manpower Agency, the Education Agency, the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD), and business associations.

The staggered office working hours are carried out in a bid to tackle the heavy traffic by preventing people from doing activities at the same time.

“When they do activities together, [for example] holding a ceremony at 7 a.m., Jakarta is like being hit by flash floods every day and we at the downstream must arrange it at the same time,” Latif said.

The number of people living in Jakarta has reached around 10 million and that number is increased by about three million people from the neighboring regions throughout the day.

The technical arrangements for the office working hours will be handed over to each institution which will later be coordinated further to break down the traffic density during peak hours. “This requires input and advice from all existing stakeholders so that there is no overcrowding at 6-9 a.m.,” he concluded.
