TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, encouraged journalists to aim their questions about the motive and details of the police murder case at the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo. The President asserted that the handling of the case has been trusted to the police chief.

The questions asked by the journalists refer to the naming of Ir. Gen. Ferdy Sambo as the suspect in the murder of his personal aid Brigadier J. So far, the motive behind the murder has yet to be exposed to the public.

"Ask that to the Police Chief, because everything is already clear, ask him," said the President at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Friday, August 12, 2022. Jokowi made it clear that he had talked about the Ferdy Sambo case to the public too often.

Previously, the Indonesian National Police spokesperson, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, stated that investigators are reluctant to reveal Ferdy Sambo's motive for killing Brigadier Nofriansah Yosua Hutabarat or Brigadier J and insisted that the motive behind the murder might only be revealed during court trials.

"God willing, it will be presented at the trial," Prasetyo said at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

Dedi said the police had reasons not to convey the motive. According to Dedi, the police must respect Ferdy Sambo and Brigadier J's relatives. He also fears public opinion could be divided if the motive is presented to the public right now.
