TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, former Head of the Professional and Security Division of the National, has admitted to killing Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat a.k.a. Brigadier J. Ferdy confessed during questioning at the Mobile Brigade Corps Headquarters in Depok, Thursday, August 11.
Brig. Gen. Andi Rian, director of general crimes at the Police Headquarters, said that Ferdy admitted that he had planned the assassination of Brigadier J since in Magelang.
"Ferdy Sambo said that he was angry and upset after his wife, Putri Candrawathi, told him about what Brigadier J did to her in Magelang, which hurt the dignity of the family," Andi said on Thursday.
Insp. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo, Head of the Public Relations Division at the National Police HQ, said that when he was upset Ferdy Sambo called Bharada E a.k.a. Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu and Brigadier Ricky Rizal, who had also been named suspects.
Ferdy's confession has been included in the murder's chronology. The police stated on Tuesday that the shooting took place at Ferdy's official residence at the Duren Tiga Police Complex in South Jakarta. Ferdy is said to have ordered Bharada E to shoot Joshua.
In his statement last weekend, Bharada E said that he was on the second floor of Ferdy's house. He came down after hearing a commotion. Downstairs, he saw Ferdy holding a gun while Brigadier J lay covered in blood. He then said that Ferdy ordered him to shoot Joshua.
Twenty CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) footage from 27 locations showed the journey of Ferdy Sambo's wife's entourage from Magelang to Jakarta. Ferdy's wife, Joshua and Richard took PCR tests in Saguling III Road in Duren Tiga after returning from Magelang. The videos showed Joshua still alive, and that Ferdy Sambo was not among the group.
"The CCTV showed Sambo's wife, Brigadier J, Bharada E, and the housekeeper," said Choirul Anam, commissioner of Komnas HAM, which investigated the CCTV recordings.
Anam said that the CCTV recordings were still being investigated by the National Police's digital forensic laboratory.
Meanwhile, the police had said that the CCTV at Sambo's official residence was not working because it was damaged.
Joshua's father, Samuel Hutabarat, said he was confused by Ferdy Sambo's confession that he killed Joshua for something he did to Putri Candrawati.
"We, the family, are puzzled by the official statement from the Police Headquarters that Sambo's motive for killing Joshua was due to an offense that began in Magelang," he said when contacted on August 11.
Samuel asked investigators to open the case, "transparently, and don't hide anything".
In the case of Brigadier J's death, the police have named four suspects; Ferdy Sambo, Bharada E, Brigadier Ricky Rizal and Kuwat.
