TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto offered Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Governor Nobumitsu Hayashi to invest in Indonesia during his visit to Tokyo.

"The health sector (Indonesia) has developed health services in the Special Economic Zone, namely in the health SEZ in Sanur Bali. In the SEZ, it is allowed to conduct clinical-trial research and allow foreign doctors to practice," said Airlangga in an official statement on Tuesday, July 26, Antaranews reported.

Airlangga said that JBIC played a major role in Indonesia's economic development as it backs the funding side as well as an advisor in various infrastructure projects.

JBIC also frequently conducts surveys for Japanese manufacturing companies doing business outside Japan, known as the Survey on Overseas Business Operations by Japanese Manufacturing Companies. The results of the 2021 survey showed that Indonesia ranked the sixth position or below Vietnam and Thailand in the list of "promising countries for overseas business".

Indonesia, said Airlangga, aspires to rank higher than the two countries. Meanwhile, one of JBIC's specializations is to finance the energy sector.

Therefore, apart from offering investment in the food and health sectors, Airlangga said he wants JBIC to be involved in several major infrastructure projects. Airlangga’s visit to Japan discussed a plethora of issues such as the strategic Masela project that would answer the gas demands of G7 countries following the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
