Multiple-Vehicle Crash on Jalan Alternatif Cibubur Kills 8: Police

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Police confirmed that the multiple-vehicle collision on Jalan Alternatif Cibubur today afternoon killed eight people. The crash involved a fuel truck belonging to Pertamina, one minibus, and a number of motorcycles.

“Yes, there were victims in the incident. The full report will be announced later. Based on initial information, eight people died,” said Metro Jaya Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan on Monday afternoon, July 18.

The Metro Jaya Traffic Police are still checking and examining the scene of the accident.

News about the deadly accident was widely circulated via WhatsApp messages, including video footage showing the condition post the crash. The message stated that the accident occurred at around 15:55 Western Indonesian Time (WIB) and was initially caused by a Pertamina truck crashing into a minibus and several motorcycles.

“Today at 15:55 WIB, a Pertamina truck is suspected of experiencing a brake failure on Jalan Alternatif Cibubur heading to Cileungsi, precisely at the traffic light,” as read in the message.

The message was followed by a 17-second video displaying wrecked vehicles.

Another short video showed victims lying on the road and under the fuel truck. “There’s an accident, a collision,” as heard in the 23-second video.

One of the victims in the Cibubur car crash was seen donning an Indonesian Military or TNI uniform. Due to the fatal accident, the traffic was heavily congested.
