TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has declared a certain emergency status for foot and mouth disease (FMD) in livestock through the Decree of the BNPB Head Number 47 of 2022.

“The decree stipulates that the BNPB will determine a certain emergency status in certain areas for FMD,” according to a written statement received on Saturday.

The decree signed by BNPB head, Lieutenant General Suharyanto, stipulates six measures. First, declaring the status of certain emergency conditions for FMD. Second, ensuring that emergency management for the duration of the certain emergency status for FMD is carried out in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

Third, the implementation of emergency mitigation is carried out with ease of access, as regulated in the disaster management regulation.

Fourth, regional heads can determine the emergency status for FMD to accelerate handling in respective regions.

Fifth, all costs incurred as a result of the stipulation of the decision will be borne by the State Budget, the Ready-to-Use Funds available at the BNPB, and other legal and non-binding sources of financing, in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.

Sixth, the decision will come into effect from the date of stipulation until December 31, 2022, with the provision that if, in the future, there are errors, corrections will be made accordingly.

As of July 1, FMD has been detected in 233,370 heads of livestock spread across 246 districts and cities in 22 provinces, according to data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.
