16 Indonesian Hajj Pilgrims Died in Saudi Arabia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Hajj Health Clinic (KKHI) in Mecca reported two hajj pilgrims passed away on Wednesday, June 22, after undergoing medical treatment. To date, 16 pilgrims died in Saudi Arabia.

“[The death is] because of heart disease. They were treated here,” said the Head of the Mecca KKIH Muhammad Imran on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.

The two pilgrims were Norlius Ilyas Intan Kayo from the Batam Embarkation group 7 (BTH 7) and Anta Misda Jiam from the Jakarta-Bekasi (JKS) Embarkation group 11.

As of date, eight pilgrims have died in Mecca and the rest in Medina and at the airport.

Imran also said as many as 67 Indonesian pilgrims were hospitalized at KKHI Mecca. “They have heart problems,” he added.

The KKHI Mecca has treated 731 cases with 531 outpatients and 200 inpatients. Imran said, most of the hospitalized pilgrims suffered from heart disease.

“Some of them also have diabetes and hypertension,” said Imran.

In addition, there were 16 pilgrims who were referred to the Saudi Arabian Hospital. Six of them underwent treatment because of fractures, strokes, or undergoing treatment for cancer.
